I gotta change my radio habits!

That Coast to Coast AM show is starting to get to me. Fortunately I have learned the correct protocal for fending off the government mind rays. TAKE THAT big brother.

(Actually I'm baking some dye into my hair - although I have noticed that the voices telling me to kill are much quieter this morning.)

Bad Drivers
We all hate 'em. I just came across this link to a post, where the poster reminisces about a special kind of idiot.

I bet we've all had something similar happen, right? We're cruising on down the highway, when some bat out of hell comes along, tailgating and intimidating; only to be slapped back by the coppers.

Usually I find motorcycle riders to be a pretty sane bunch on the highway. Yesterday, though - I was doing the standard 60 in a 55, when all of a sudden this guy on a bike appeared in my rearview mirror - out of nowhere. I was almost concerned he was going to pop a wheelie and climb his motorcycle over my car. The first chance he got (which, naturally, was in a no passing zone), he zoomed around me. Now I was half-afraid I'd have to stop and call the ambulance so they could scrape this guy off the cement. He was pulling down his shirt which had become untucked or something, and was sort of weaving as he tugged at it. I guess he got everything under control, because he was out of sight again in no time.

Part of me (the vindictive part) wanted to follow him just to see him get pulled over, but the rational part of me said "let it go". In my little universe, I just KNOW that guy got pulled over and maybe beaten up a little bit.

So now, share with me your bad driver stories.

I'm really looking forward to my new phone (see earlier post on same) and quite impatient for it to turn up.. playing with the online simulation is just good sense to get the hang of how to navigate and set things up in advance and not be utterly perplexed when it arrives, and not just really, really sad, right? :>

The interactive thingy on the SonyEricsson site is pretty nifty actually...

Kinetik Festival, Day 2
Saw Memmaker, Rabia Sorda, Funker Vogt, Kiew, and Noisuf-X. All were fairly good but Kiew was suffering from equipment difficulties due to the change in voltage differences between here and Europe.

What is impressive is the festival itself. The venue is really nice. It looks like a large, old power plant that has been converted over to some sort of convention/event hall. The main space is huge with a large lighting set up. Behind the bands are two huge video screens and each band has videos playing behind them where there name occasionally is displayed on screen. While I can see Nitzer Ebb and Funker Vogt having their own videos to display, I suspect that the festival has made and supplied all the videos due to similarities in content and production values between them. Even if half the bands supplied their own video, that's a lot of video to produce while not only being helpfully tailored to each band, but still remain somewhat interesting to watch. Tickets get you little plastic wrist bands for passes to shows. The shows are scheduled and going on on time. Everything seems to be running like clockwork.

Now, I venture out to go to Schwartz's, a kosher deli that has been serving smoked meat sandwiches since 1928. Just meat and mustard and apparently the best thing ever.

Guess who's not going to see Madonna this year...
ME!

The tickets went on sale at 10, I woke up late....

I'm fucking annoyed at myself...the tickets are fucking sold out.

Oh well.

Hopefully some miracle will happen...

Last night I had to marvel at the levels of badness some peoples driving reach.

Take this guy last night...

I was leaving the dog park at Marymoor and there was a park official out waving traffic. The guy was waving me through and telling the other guy in the 15yo pale blue Honda to stop. The other guy went anyway, leaving the park official yelling.

Then the guy pulled into on coming traffic to get to the turn lane that was a good 12 car lengths ahead of him and did not have room for him when he got there.

Then the guy went in to a turn only lane to rush ahead, and then get back into the non-turn lane, cutting people off.

I caught up with him at the light on to Bel-Red Rd...

When the light turned green, he pulled left into the "do not enter" area to pass the guy in front of him through the intersection.

Then he slowed down and did his best to block traffic up Bel-Red Rd., finally giving that up, to cut someone else off, forcing them to slam on their breaks.

The guy was ardently obeying the speed limit, except when slowing down to block traffic, and he was not weaving in a drunken fashion. So either he's just a dick, or the worlds worst driver.

I did get a picture of his license plate, and I'm kind of tempted to post it here and to maybe to the Redmond or Bellevue community with a description of how the guy drives. Much like the classic "Highway 17 Page of Shame". Picture posted above.

Much better.
In a shocking move of good taste, it looks like the cover for the Region 1 DVD release of Spaced will be much closer to the R2 release.

Good.

Again, this is out in the US on July 22nd and it comes with the highest possible recommendation.

If I May....
Having been a closet Victorian for many years, and then quite the extrovert in my adult life, with a lengthy history of re-enacting, I am delighted to discover the world of steampunk. Some 15 years ago we had an informal group of Victorian minded folks-- the Redoubtable Society-- existing primarily for our own pleasure. We were actually 'hired' on a few occasions, fed and paid in fact, simply to attend events for the sake of 'ambiance'. Mainly stroll about in period clothing (some reconstructions, some actual vintage) or play croquet, etc. Sadly, time and distance took it's toll-- marriages, moves, and mortality cut our numbers, and the Society itself has been dormant for some time.

However, I've spoken to a few friends who all want to revive the Redoubtables with steampunk additions. I am located in NJ, and hold the keys to a local museum, which has already granted permission for me to use that location for meetings-- IF there is any interest. Besides the obvious social benefits of monthly meetings, and a newsletter, we are interested in running 'safaris' for 'salvage' (any usable material) at some of the larger NJ flea markets-- you know, meet at the museum, carpool, and return later for sharing our finds and a picnic. Also, a crash course in croquet (to be later transformed into mortal combat I am sure), fencing demos (I am a sabre fencer with some old titles to my credit) and the traditional stitch-and-bitch, swaps and sharing our latest projects. Admittedly, my mechanical ability is minimal, but by networking and sharing info, we learn. Also, we hope to have interested folks offer informal talks at meetings. And let us not forget the occasional tea! Your home location of course is no problem-- while some may not be able to attend events, they can still participate. I am posting this in order to get feedback of anyone interested. If there is some response, I will likely toss together a community here on LJ to get the ball rolling. Any thoughts on the matter, suggestions or such, are VERY welcome!
